Osteoporosis and Sarcopenia Clinic

Osteoporosis, or bone density loss, is a skeletal disorder that primarily occurs in old age, characterized by decreased bone strength, putting individuals at risk of fractures. In fact, fractures are the only symptom of this disease and are recognized as the most significant complication associated with mortality. Among fractures, hip fractures are the most severe complication of osteoporosis, with a mortality rate exceeding 20% in the first year. According to the International Osteoporosis Foundation, among individuals over 50 years old, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men will experience a fracture due to osteoporosis in their lifetime.

On the other hand, sarcopenia, or muscle wasting, is another significant condition in old age. The gradual decline in muscle mass and strength begins around the age of 40 and progresses daily with increasing age and decreased mobility. Loss of independence, reduced quality of life, increased risk of falls, vertebral fractures, and hip fractures, as well as increased early mortality, are complications of this disease. It is noteworthy that in many elderly individuals, both osteoporosis and sarcopenia occur together, leading to faster and more severe complications.

In this context, the presence of a specialized clinic capable of taking steps toward the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of these diseases can be effective. Therefore, the Osteoporosis and Sarcopenia Clinic provides the following services:

Measurement of bone density using a reliable device and interpretation of results by a specialist physician
Diagnosis of osteoporosis and initiation of treatment by a specialist physician
Assessment of muscular health, diagnosis of sarcopenia, and provision of management and treatment options by a specialist physician
Consultation on bone and muscle health
