Holding the World Congress on Osteoporosis and Musculoskeletal Diseases hosted by the International Osteoporosis Foundation
This congress was held with the aim of sharing the latest findings and achievements in the field of osteoporosis and musculoskeletal diseases.
According to the Public Relations of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Afshin Ostovar, the head of the Research Institute of Endocrine Sciences and Metabolism, announced the holding of the World Congress on Osteoporosis and Musculoskeletal Diseases (WCO-IOF-ESCEO) in the UK. He stated that this event is the largest and most impactful scientific conference addressing osteoporosis, joint degeneration, and other musculoskeletal diseases at the international level.
Dr. Ostovar mentioned that the institute members significantly contributed by presenting 19 papers at the congress, highlighting the institute's research, education activities, and national bone health week programs that caught the attention of the International Osteoporosis Foundation and experts in the field. He noted that this congress is held annually by the International Osteoporosis Foundation and the European Society for Musculoskeletal Diseases in different European countries.
At this conference, researchers, scholars, pharmaceutical companies, and medical device industries present their latest findings in bone health and musculoskeletal diseases, exchanging ideas and scientific achievements. Dr. Ostovar added that the papers presented at this international congress were developed in collaboration with researchers using data from studies on osteoporosis, aging, endocrine diseases, and chronic conditions. He also emphasized the vast capacity of the Research Institute of Endocrine Sciences and Metabolism for conducting scientific research in osteoporosis, mentioning that significant national studies are underway, hoping that strengthened inter-sectoral collaboration will yield valuable data for policymaking and better control of osteoporosis in the country.
On the sidelines of the congress, Dr. Ostovar met with Dr. Anshu Banerjee, the Director of the Department of Aging and Life Course at the World Health Organization, to discuss collaboration opportunities for the institute as a WHO collaborating center in research and education on osteoporosis and sarcopenia.
